The center of Vienna, the city center, is easy to explore on foot, but a special tram for tourists—the so-called “Vienna Ring Tram”—and the traditional horse-drawn carriages are also great options.

The imperial atmosphere that still pervades Vienna is clearly evident in the imposing palaces, stately government buildings, and meticulously maintained churches. Belvedere Palace is also an absolute highlight.

Right in the heart of the city, in the Hofburg—where you would least expect it—you’ll find the stables and historic riding hall of Vienna’s Spanish Riding School. Performances by the unique Lipizzaner horses should be a must-see during your city tour.

At Schönbrunn Palace or the Imperial Hofburg, you can immerse yourself in the history of Sisi and Emperor Franz and their family’s rich heritage. Follow in the footsteps of the Habsburgs through the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens to the Gloriette and enjoy the breathtaking view of the palace and the entire city over a cup of fine Viennese coffee.

The park of Schönbrunn Palace is home to the world’s oldest zoo, the Schönbrunn Zoo. This is not only a real attraction for children but also holds its own charm for adults thanks to its architectural design, which perfectly combines historical elements with state-of-the-art facilities for the animals. Right nearby, the Palm House and the Butterfly House also invite you on an adventure that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Vienna is also a world-renowned music capital. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn established the Viennese Classical style. Through Ludwig van Beethoven, this world-famous and much-loved musical genre evolved further into the Romantic period. We owe the famous Viennese waltz—and especially the Radetzky March—to Johann Baptist Strauss, born in 1804. Vienna also gained worldwide fame through the prestige of the Vienna State Opera and the artistry of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna Boys’ Choir, which continue to cause an international sensation.

The VIC, the Vienna International Center, offers a stark contrast. Better known among Viennese as “UNO-City,” it defines the skyline of today’s Danube City. Approximately 25 international organizations, such as OPEC, have their headquarters in Vienna.

In the heart of the city, one can also find famous modern buildings such as the Haas House or the Hundertwasser House.

We recommend treating yourself to some excellent Viennese cuisine during a city tour. Thanks to the city’s strong historical Hungarian and, above all, Bohemian influences, the world of sweet treats is particularly tempting here. Viennese cuisine has more to offer than just Wiener Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn, and it’s hugely popular not only with locals. Old-fashioned Viennese taverns and Heurige are well worth a visit, not to mention the Schweizerhaus in Vienna’s Prater.

The team at the Frühstückspension Alexandra Kasper will be happy to help you plan your city tour. Just ask at the front desk. As native Viennese, we always have helpful tips ready for you. We’re also happy to assist with choosing a restaurant, because in the cosmopolitan city of Vienna, you naturally won’t find specialties at bargain prices everywhere—it’s better to stick to the restaurants on the outskirts. Here, the location of Pension Kasper in particular offers numerous opportunities to eat well and affordably.
