“The plot of land on which my beautiful house now stands has belonged to my family for several generations.
Old documents reveal that the street used to have a different name.
The former “Schlesingerstraße” was renamed “An der Hölle” in 1944, during World War II. My grandparents told me that the name, which referred to Judaism (Silesia), apparently no longer suited the Führer, Adolf Hitler. How the new name came about remains a mystery to everyone. If you look it up online, you’ll read that it might refer to a cave, though no one here can recall any cave.
Even though the origin of the name seems rather grim, we’re glad that our guests remember it so well—it does sound quite devilish. But don’t worry, you’ll find it heavenly here; I’m sure of that.”
